About the Song

The lyrics of “The Wedding Song” are an almost verbatim versification of a lugubrious tale recounted to Ozly one day by a friend and colleague, whose meticulously planned wedding had been scheduled to take place only a few days later. Ozly hoped to help assuage the pain by writing a song about it; to this day he does not know whether it was received in the spirit intended.

The Wedding Song

Words and Music by Thomas Gannett

Baby, baby, baby, guess I'll be moving on.

Baby, baby, baby, guess I'll be moving on.

You wouldn't go out with me last night;

you stayed up drinking until dawn.

I come back home this morning,

find my guitar on the lawn.

Baby, baby, baby,

guess I'll be moving on.

Baby, baby, baby, just what you trying to do?

Baby, baby, baby, don't throw my amp out, too.

You've got it half way to the door,

but it's too heavy for you.

I'll take it with me, baby,

I just don't know what else to do.

Baby, baby, baby,

Just what you trying to do?

Baby, baby, baby, cancel those wedding plans.

Baby, baby, baby, cancel those wedding plans.

I'm gonna call up all our friends,

and tell them not to attend.

I'm sending back the gifts,

you know, we won't be keeping them.

Baby, baby, baby,

cancel those wedding plans.
