I Don’t Want to Go to Delcambre

Words and Music by Thomas Gannett and Byron Sheppard

Gator was hitchhiking on the ramp to I-10.

I said I’d pick him up if he would try to be my friend.

Oh ya.

I was goin’ to Morgan City, get a job on a rig.

Had to turn around--the sign said, “Do not pass on bridge.”

Oh no.

I don’t want to go to Delcambre,

don’t want to have a good time.

Don’t need no fais-do-do, mais no no.

Don’t need to lose my mind.

Crawfish flagged me down along the Henderson Swamp.

Gator wiped a tear and said “Laissez les bons temps

roulez.”

Well the next thing I remember I was in second gear,

chewing on some pork rinds and a-sippin’ Dixie beer.

Oh, man!

I don’t want to go to Delcambre,

don’t want to have a good time.

Don’t need no fais-do-do, mais no no.

Don’t need to lose my mind.

I’m going to Delcambre, gonna have a good time (don’t want to go).

I’m going to Delcambre, gonna have a good time (don’t want to go).

Got me a gator in the back seat, got me a crawfish on my mind.

I might take a boat, might take a pirogue (don’t want to go)—

I don’t know how I’ll get there, but I’m probably gonna float.

I’m going to Delcambre, baby, gonna have a good time (don’t want to go).

Got me a gator in the back seat, got me a crawfish on my mind.
